GAITS OF GOLD
For almost 500 years the
Peruvian Horse has been carefully bred to produce the
ultimate pleasure horse. The Peruvian's four-beat
lateral gait guarantees its rider the smoothest ride in the
world. Its ancestors are the horses the Spanish
Conquistadors brought to Peru from Spain. Cut off from
the rest of the world for centuries, the Peruvians developed
into a wonderful riding horse with a fixed gait that is
passed 100% to its offspring.
The average height of the Peruvian horse is
between 14.1 and 15.2, providing a horse that is easily
mounted and dismounted. His temperament is excellent. His
willing nature and desire to please make him easily trained.
The breed is carefully watched to maintain the desirable
characteristics inbred in the horse, i.e. smoothness,
excellent temperament, strength and gait.
The gait of the Peruvian has
often been compared to sitting in a rocking chair; smooth
and easy. The Peruvian is recommended for riders with back
and leg problems. Many people have told us that they
had given up riding until they discovered the unique gait of
the Peruvian Horse. Their smooth gait truly makes the
Peruvian "worth its weight in gold."
